I started Nursing with many frowns in my social circle. Other than the fact that nursing took me away from joining peers in pursuing a degree in a traditional academic discipline with the world class National University of Singapore, I had started Nursing not having the slightest clue of what it meant. Certainly as I progressed, I have amazing discoveries about Nursing. You'll hear every nurse claiming nursing is a unique discipline in healthcare. I echo that claim - it is uniquely special because it allows personal growth and career advancement without one realising it! You can be sure that Nursing, with one's commitment and dedication, is so much more than just a rewarding career, but an enriching endeavour, which will bring forth self-confidence and self-actualisation.
My diverse healthcare research interests have developed and expanded based on my initial interest in Nursing, so much so that I have now moved beyond bedside clinical nursing to Nursing in higher education. Being in a privileged position as a nurse educator and researcher, I have joined many others in assuming a more pivotal position in the continuous development of Nursing.

Currently, I am affiliated to the Faculty of Health and Social Care in the University of Hull. This is where I am given many opportunities to contribute back to the nursing discipline. The Faculty provides me more than a conducive environment for teaching and learning, but critically, an exciting environment for research. My dedicated commitment to nursing education has led, in May 2012, to me being awarded the prestigious title of International Scholar by the Higher Education Academy. This award increases the number of opportunities for me to deepen my collaborative relationship for continuous exchange of good nursing educational practices on an international basis.
